Surgery Day and Post Op Day 2

It is currently pretty late at night and I am trying to focus on something other than my pain.  My momma is going to type for me until I am able to do it for myself.  This will probably be well after I am home.

I had my surgery on Tuesday, July 28th.  I had to get to the hospital at 6:30am.  I went into the operating room about 8am.  I get a lot of anxiety about going under anesthesia.  I have always been worried that I will wake up during surgery.  Yesterday, I heard voices and thought I was waking up during surgery but once I opened my eyes, I realized I was in the PICU and already done with my surgery.  That was at about 4:15pm.

Yesterday, I didn’t feel too much pain because I was still very loopy and was in and out sleep for most of the night.   One thing that was very painful was my left knee.  Somehow it got dislocated during the surgery or transfer to the PICU.  This sometimes happens when I transfer to the bathroom as I weight bear but it has never happened just laying in bed.  And normally, it pops right back into place.  After a while, a doctor was able to pop it back into place which was good.  The other unfortunate part is that I have some numbing/tingling on my upper left thigh and my left fingers.  The doctors say that this sometimes happens after surgery and should go away eventually but it is very annoying.  I have also been very nauseous and got very sick last night.  Luckily, it was only once but I am still feeling nauseous a lot.

Yesterday and earlier today, I had a button I could push to give myself the medicine, dilaudid.  This gave me a quick relief from any pain and I could push it every ten minutes.  I no longer have the button and am now on a mix of oxycodone, torodol and tylenol.  The day after surgery, I am always in a ton of pain and unfortunately, the new mix of meds doesn’t work as well as the button did.  My back hurts alot today and my neck is very stiff.  I am hoping I will be able to get a little bit of sleep tonight.

PT and OT came today and I sat on the edge of the bed for about one minute.  The goal will be  to get me up more each day but it is really hard.  I also ate a little bit for the first time today.  I had a few bites of chicken, rice and beans.

I don’t like apple juice but always crave it whenever I have surgery.  Even though I am in a lot of pain, I was glad that my mommy got to come in and see me for a little bit tonight while my momma went home to take a shower.

This is from Lyn (momma)- Greta is in alot of pain.  She wants to be turned constantly in hopes of finding some relief and our main focus right now is on managing the pain.  The day after her back surgeries are always the worst and I anticipate the overnight tonight will be rough as well. Thanks for your prayers.  We need them and appreciate them. I was happy to type for her tonight and it gave her something else to focus on for a little bit. I hope that her pain is more manageable tomorrow, that her neck feels a bit less stiff and that the numbing/tingling in her left hand and thigh subsides. `
